SPRINGFIELD, TN (WSMV) – A new student surprised everyone at a Robertson County elementary school on Tuesday morning, except it wasn’t a person – it was a deer.
The Big Dollar crashed through an emergency exit at Westside Elementary School, locking itself in a classroom overnight. Kaleb Stratton, a game ranger with the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, was able to escort the male into the wild.
“It’s not what I expected when I walked in,” Stratton said. “Once I found out it was money and saw it in the classroom, I said, ‘This is going to be hard. “”
Stratton says it’s mating season for the deer right now, so the buck was probably chasing a doe when she broke into the school. He might also have seen his reflection in the glass and thought it was another dollar.
“[Deer] are just going crazy [right now] and it’s not just in Robertson County, it’s all over the state of Tennessee, ”Stratton said.
The dollar that burst into Westside knocked over a few tables and chairs but was not injured. School administrators made sure all students were safe inside before Stratton brought the deer outside where he returned to the wild.
