BTS member Jin to be South Korea’s torchbearer at 2024 Paris Olympics

Jin is representing his home country at the 2024 Olympics!

Superstar boy band BTS will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic torch relay as South Korea’s torchbearer, it was announced on Tuesday (July 2). While details have not yet been revealed, Jin’s relay aims to spread the message of “harmony” and “peace,” according to a press release.

The ceremonial Olympic torch relay takes place before each series of games and the Olympic flame travels from Olympia, Greece, through different countries to end up at the site of that year’s Olympic Games. It was first introduced at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.

Jin recently completed his mandatory military service and celebrated the special moment by reuniting with his bandmates BTS, who were all given time off to mark the milestone.

The Paris Summer Olympics kick off on July 26, and earlier this year it was announced that Snoop Dogg would be joining NBC’s team to cover the games this summer and would be on hand to provide “regular reporting” on the Olympic Primetime Show.

“I grew up watching the Olympics and I’m excited to see the incredible athletes excel in Paris. It’s a celebration of talent, dedication and the pursuit of greatness,” Snoop said in a statement at the time of the announcement. “We’re going to have some incredible competition and of course, I’m bringing that Snoop style to the mix. This is going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned and stay tuned. Let’s elevate, celebrate and make these games unforgettable, let’s smoke out the competition and let the best shine like gold. Peace and Olympic LOVE, you know?”

The Paris Games will run from July 26 to August 11. NBC and its streaming service, Peacock, will provide coverage of the Olympics.
