Bruno Fernandes nets 40-yard stunner for Manchester United as Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah’s error proves costly

Bruno Fernandes scored a superb 40-yard effort in front of the Stretford End to put Manchester United level against Liverpool.

Man United had been second best for the entire first half after failing to register a single shot while Liverpool had 15.

With Luis Diaz finding the net from close range, it looked like a game Jurgen Klopp’s side were on the verge of killing off before Jarell Quansah had a moment to forget.

Without any pressure, the 21-year-old played a pass directly into the path of Fernandes who was just inside Liverpool’s half.

Without even touching, the Portuguese star let go and beat the out-of-position Caoimhin Kelleher who was powerless to keep the effort out of his net.

The strike was Fernandes’ 50th for Manchester United in the Premier League and undoubtedly one of his most memorable.

But Man United weren’t done yet, with Kobbie Mainoo scoring a stunner midway through the second half to lead 2-1.

Liverpool know they need a win to reclaim top spot in the table following the victories of Arsenal and Man City this weekend.

Meanwhile, a Man United win moves them nine points from fourth place with a game in hand.
