The Megastar Rock Bruce Springsteen has made a series of critical remarks on US President Donald Trump and the policies of his administration, calling the US leader “unsuitable” to his functions.
“The Mighty E Street Band is here this evening to call on the right power of art, music, rock n ‘Roll in Dangerous Times,” Springsteen said at the start of a concert in Manchester, in northern England.
“In my house, America I love – America I wrote that has been a headlight of hope and freedom for 250 years – is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and betrayal administration,” he said.
“Tonight we ask all those who believe in democracy and the best of our American spirit to rise with us, to raise your voice against authoritarianism,” added Springsteen.
The Rock Star has spoken out several times during the show, later publishing clips of its comments on its Instagram account.
“The last control over power, after the failure of government checks and sales, are people – you and me. It is in the union of people around a common set of values. Now, that’s all that is between democracy and authoritarianism. So, at the end of the day, everything we really have of each other, “he continued.
He then criticized some of the most recent policies in the American administration.
“In America, the richest men are satisfied with the abandonment of the poorest children in the world to illness and death. This happens now,” he said.
“In my country, they have a sadistic pleasure in the pain they inflict on American loyal workers, they make the historical legislation of civil rights go back to a fairer and plural society,” he said.
“They abandon our great allies and ride on the side of dictators against those who fight for their freedom. They finance American universities who will not bow to their ideological requests. They withdraw residents of the American streets, and without regular procedure, deport them to foreign detention centers and prisons. All this happens now,” added Springsteen.
The singer also criticized American legislators for omitting to protect the American people from what he called “an unfit president and a rogue government”, and without “any idea or idea of what it means to be deeply American”.
“America that I have been singing you for 50 years is real and, regardless of its faults, is a big country with a formidable people, the same is true at the moment,” said Springsteen.
The Manchester show was the first on the European leg of Springsteen and the “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour of the Street Band, which will also take dates in France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the Czech Republic.
Springsteen previously criticized Trump and urged the Americans to vote for Kamala Harris during a campaign rally for the Democratic candidate last year.
His Trump review comes after the Hollywood star Robert de Niro targeted the US President of the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday.
“In my country, we are fighting like hell for democracy that we have taken for acquired,” said Niro.
“This affects us all here, because the arts are democratic, art is inclusive and brings together people, as this evening. Art seeks truth. Art embraces diversity, and that is why art is a threat,” added Niro, who is a frank critic of the American president.
“This is why we are a threat to autocrats and fascists,” he added.
De Niro put an end to his speech with a call to people to resist Trump “without violence, but with a great passion and determination”.
“It is time for all those who care about the freedom to organize, to protest and when there are elections, of course, to vote.,” Added the actor.
