Brother of murdered pop star Selena attacks fans during concert

The brother of slain Tejano icon Selena Quintanilla-Pérez lashed out at a lackluster audience at a San Antonio music festival over the weekend, telling the booing crowd: “Boo you for not having participated in the show.

AB Quintanilla, posted and then deleted an apology on Instagram after lashing out at fans during his act AB Quintanilla Y Los Kumbia Kings All Starz, the final headliner of the 2024 Tejano Explosion music festival on Saturday.

In the since-deleted post, Quintanilla blamed his now-viral bout on not taking his medication at his doctor’s request, according to KSAT.

The 60-year-old musician was visibly upset by the audience’s alleged lack of enthusiasm on Saturday, eventually telling the crowd: “It’s like someone put a gun to your head and forced you to be here This evening.”

“Working so hard all these years to bring you hits, and you guys come here, and you can’t even raise your hands to clap or be happy, man, you know, and it’s sad for us and for me,” Quintanilla said in the clip before adding, “I’ll take my music somewhere else.”

Quintanilla then vowed that this performance would be his last at the Tejano music event.

“I traveled from Las Vegas and received love from there. I come to my hometown in Texas, San Antonio, and I don’t get any fucking love here, man. It’s not cool. This is not acceptable,” he said.

He then chastised festival-goers for not supporting Tejano music like they support the Dallas Cowboys – and was immediately booed in response.

“You should be, just like you support the Dallas Cowboys who lose every year, you should support your groups. And Tejano music,” he said.

“Boo all you want, I don’t care, it doesn’t affect me. Boo whatever you want. Boo yourself for not being a part of the show.

Quintanilla’s mood seemed to fade as the show continued, invoking his sister, Tejano legend Selena Quintanilla Pérez, who was brutally murdered in 1995, and reminiscing about the musicians he met during of her career.

“And all those who left with their middle fingers? God bless you all. I don’t wish them anything bad,” Quintanilla said in another TikTok. “They’re not real fans, man.”

The festival took place just minutes from San Antonio’s historic Market Square, where two people were shot and killed and four others injured as the festivities ended Sunday morning.

Officers near a scene heard a gunshot and saw an 18-year-old man running away just after midnight. Another officer then saw the man shoot and hit a 20-year-old man.

Officers then shot the 18-year-old multiple times, who was hit and pronounced dead at the scene, KSAT reported. The 20-year-old was pronounced dead at hospital.

Four female passers-by were also shot dead. It was not immediately clear whether they had been hit by the suspects’ shots or by police fire.
