Bronny James amazed by Bay Area fan support in NBA Summer League debut for Lakers – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Bronny James received a warm welcome in his NBA Summer League debut despite the Los Angeles Lakers playing the Sacramento Kings at Chase Center, home of their division rivals the Warriors.

James, the son of four-time NBA MVP LeBron James, made his highly anticipated NBA debut Saturday as the Lakers and Kings kicked off the annual California Classic in San Francisco. James scored four points, grabbed two rebounds and had two assists in 22 minutes on the court.

After the game, James spoke about the atmosphere at Chase Center, captured by Janie McCauley of the Associated Press:

“The atmosphere was better than I expected,” James told reporters when asked what surprised him the most. “It’s a big game for me, but I didn’t know Golden State was coming out to represent me, so that was pretty cool to see.”

Will the positive reception from the Bay Area continue on Sunday? Well, James won’t be taking part in the on-field action.

Less than an hour before the game was set to begin, the Lakers confirmed that James would not play against the Warriors for Game 2 of Sunday’s California Classic due to swelling in his left knee.

This game will air at 3:30 p.m. PST on NBC Sports Bay Area and stream on the NBC Sports app.
