Britney Spears responds to her ex-husband’s claims about her parenting in her new memoir.
Before the publication of his memoirs on October 21 You thought you knewKevin Federline went on a press tour to promote the book, which recounts the details of his marriage to Spears and their co-parenting relationship.
In a first extract published by The New York TimesFederline claims their son woke up to his mother standing in a doorway, holding a knife. Additional material in the memoir claims that Spears drank wine while pregnant and used cocaine while she was still breastfeeding.
The “Gimme More” singer spoke to
“Relationships with teenagers are complex (sic). I felt demoralized by this situation and always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life,” Spears wrote. “Unfortunately, they have always witnessed their own father’s lack of respect for me (sic). They have to take responsibility. With one son only seeing me 45 minutes in the last 5 years and the other with only 4 visits in the last 5 years. I am proud too. From now on I will let them know when I am available.”
The Grammy winner then directly addressed Federline’s memoir: “Believe me, these white lies in this book, they go straight to the bank and I’m the only one who is really hurt here. I will always love them and if you really know me, you won’t pay attention to the tabloids about my mental health and my drinking. I’m actually a pretty intelligent woman who has tried to live a sacred and private life for the last 5 years. I’m talking about this because I’ve had enough and I don’t really have any problems. a woman would do the same.
Spears and Federline share two sons, Jayden, 19, and Preston, 20. The two married in September 2004 and remained together for two years until Spears filed for divorce in 2006.
When addressing what her children think of the memoir, Federline said The Hollywood Reporter they were “100% behind me in telling my story.” Of their relationship with Spears, he added: “Their situation with their mother is fluid and they talk. They even went to see her and everything.”
As a result of the #FreeBritney movement, the “Womanizer” singer’s conservatorship ended in 2021. Federline claims that “this situation with Britney feels like she’s heading toward something irreversible” in her memoir.
When asked what he thought about what was happening in Spears’ life, THRFederline said, “I think if someone pays attention to it, they can kind of see for themselves.”
“All I really want is for her to be happy and healthy, and I want her to be there for our children,” he added. “My kids want her to be around for a long time. So I sounded the alarm. It’s become a situation where I need people to start supporting my sons and their mother.”
In an earlier statement, Spears’ team said of the memoir: “With the news of Kevin’s book coming out, once again he and others are taking advantage of her and unfortunately this comes after child support for Kevin ended. All she cares about is her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir.”
