British Open 2024 TV Schedule, Coverage, Where to Watch, Live Stream Online, Channel, Tee Times at Royal Troon
The final major tournament of what has already been a thrilling 2024 golf season enters its final 18 holes with The Open Championship in its 152nd edition this week at Royal Troon. The world’s oldest golf tournament returned to Troon for the first time in eight years with the Claret Jug and a R&A record handbag The award is expected to be presented on site on Sunday for the 10th time.
All eyes were on Rory McIlroy at the start of the tournament, given that the Northern Irishman had entered the tournament playing some of the best golf of his career, but he was among the extended list of stars — including the man who beat him at the U.S. Open, Bryson DeChambeau — to miss the cut. Tiger Woods has also struggled at Royal Troon, although unlike McIlroy and DeChambeau, he hardly ever got a chance to play this weekend.
Shane Lowry, who had one of three bogey-free rounds over the first 18 holes, took over the lead after 18 and 36 holes, but fell off the mark in the third round with a 77 that dropped him from a two-shot lead to a three-shot deficit behind new 54-hole leader Billy Horschel (-4). The former Florida Gators star shot 68-69 over the final two rounds to move atop the leaderboard, one shot ahead of the field at 4 under par.
There is, however, a huge, star-studded field just one shot behind Horschel, with Xander Schauffele and Justin Rose among the six golfers in T2 heading into Sunday’s final round. Scottie Scheffler is just one shot further back at 2-under par. As for who has the best chance of winning the Claret Jug, here’s a look at the The Open Championship contenders’ chances of victory.
