British equestrian star Georgie Campbell, 37, dies after fall at Bicton Horse Trials

British equestrian star Georgie Campbell died on Sunday aged 37 after suffering a fall at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon.

Campbell and Global Quest were competing in the CCI4*-S event when the accident occurred on the cross-country course. They came across a log in the water at fence 5b, known as the Symonds & Sampson Splash.

Medical professionals immediately responded to the scene, but Campbell tragically died.

During his career, Campbell competed in over 200 events, winning six times.

A statement from Bicton International Horse Trials read: “It is with deepest regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell (GBR) suffered a fatal accident while competing in the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England, on Sunday May 26, 2024.

“Medical professionals attended the scene immediately after her fall at fence 5b, but unfortunately she could not be saved.

“The horse, Global Quest, was assessed by veterinarians on site and returned to the stable and is uninjured.

“To respect the family’s privacy during this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be shared.”

She married Jesse Campbell in 2020, who is a professional rider and competed for New Zealand at the Tokyo Olympics.
