British dancer, 26, killed by boyfriend in ‘reckless sex game gone wrong’

A British coroner said this week that Georgia Brooke, a 26-year-old dance teacher who was allegedly fatally strangled by her boyfriend, died following a “reckless sex game gone wrong.”

British authorities said Brooke’s boyfriend, Luke Cannon, 31, committed suicide by hanging just after learning his lover had died at a local hospital, unable to recover from cardiac arrest.

The coroner, Martin Fleming, added on Wednesday that drugs may have played a role in the tragedy, with traces of GHB and cocaine found in their bodies after the incident in February 2022, Yorkshire Live reported.

Cannon reportedly called authorities when Brooke went into cardiac arrest and was taken away by ambulance. After his death, Yorkshire Live reported that cops opened an investigation into Cannon, but found him dead before an investigation could seriously begin.

A court heard text messages between the couple allegedly showed the choking was consensual.

Fleming told the court that Georgia was “unlawfully killed,” suggesting Cannon likely would have faced criminal charges if he were still alive.

Fleming said the couple’s sexual practices were both “dangerous and reckless”, both due to drug use and the excessive force Cannon used to strangle his partner. Yorkshire Live reported.

While discussing the couple’s actions, Fleming reportedly added that there was no evidence to suggest Cannon intended to harm his partner. The BBC added that a local police detective reminded the court that Cannon was “extremely remorseful and beside himself” in hospital, and that he was seen on CCTV footage “trying to crying, pacing and in a general state of distress.”

After learning of Brooke’s whereabouts, police said Cannon attempted to contact her mother, but was unsuccessful. He then went to a wooded area and killed himself, the BBC reported, with a stranger finding his body the next morning in West Yorkshire.

Brooke’s loved ones said Yorkshire Live that life had been “horrible” since Brooke’s death, but that they had accepted the authorities’ conclusions that her murder was likely accidental in nature.

Cannon’s parents spoke in court, saying their son worked as a model, television extra and personal trainer. His mother described him as a “wonderful man who lit up the room.”

Fleming said he hoped Brooke’s death would serve as a warning to couples that what they do in the bedroom can have fatal consequences.

“This type of sexual act is dangerous and reckless and too often ends with fatal consequences,” he said.
