Scottish boxing hero Willie Limond is fighting for his life in hospital after suffering a seizure.

Limond, 45, was found unconscious in his car on Saturday morning and was rushed to Monklands University Hospital in Airdrie.

He remains in a critical condition, with a source telling The Sun: “He’s really bad.

“They think he fell ill while in his car, luckily there was no collision with anyone else.”

Limond had an exceptional professional career that saw him win 42 of his 48 fights.

Limond lost his last fight in September, but was expected to return to the ring next month

Limond fought Amir Khan in 2007, losing to the former world champion after eight rounds

Since his debut in 1999, Limond has won European, Commonwealth and British titles and faced some of the UK’s biggest names.

Four of his six losses came against fighters who have won world titles, including Amir Khan, Anthony Crolla, Erik Morales and Ricky Burns.

Burns stopped Limond in eight rounds last September, but the Scottish veteran insisted he wanted to keep fighting and was due to return to the ring next month for a fight against popular Geordie Joe Laws at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on May 3.

Both men were scheduled to take part in an open practice last Saturday, and it still went ahead despite Limond falling seriously ill.

Limond posted on Instagram last Thursday encouraging fans to watch him follow his routine before his next fight.

“Alright, troops. Please note, we have the public training session on Saturday, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the St Enoch Center in Glasgow,” he wrote.

“I don’t even name everyone on the bill because I always forget everyone on it.”

“We’re all going to be there. I feel good, see you Saturday.

Limond’s former opponent Alex Arthur (pictured) wished his compatriot well after he fell seriously ill.

Best wishes have been pouring in from the boxing community for Limond, including from his former opponent and compatriot Alex Arthur.

Arthur shared an old newspaper image of himself with Limond with the caption: “My brother.”

Popular boxing outlet iFL TV also wrote about X: “Former British, Commonwealth and European champion Willie Limond is said to be in a critical condition after suffering a seizure while driving.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Willie, his family and close friends during this difficult time.”
