Brian Stelter Returns to CNN, Will Take on Analyst Role and Write Newsletter

Former CNN anchor Brian Stelter, who hosted the Sunday show “Reliable Sources” from 2013 to 2022, is returning to the cable news network as its chief media analyst.

Mr. Stelter announced the news in an email Tuesday to subscribers of CNN’s “Reliable Sources” newsletter, which he founded in 2015.

The newsletter was discontinued after Oliver Darcy left.

Mr. Stelter said he would return to writing the newsletter, which officially launches Monday, develop unspecified digital content and appear on television in his role as a media analyst.

Mr. Stelter did not specify which shows he would appear on, but wrote: “I loved my old life as a Sunday morning talk show host, but, to borrow a bit of jargon from my video game blogging days, I finished this level of the game.”

He also wrote that his absence had changed his view of the media.

“After more than 20 years of being passionate about news, I changed my habits and disconnected a bit. I also changed my perspective, moving from Manhattan to a horse farm near one of Donald Trump’s golf clubs. I experienced the news like a regular consumer, and in the process, I learned a lot about the attention economy and the news ecosystem,” Stelter wrote.
