One of the targets of criticism following the Giants’ collapse against the Broncos in Week 7 was defensive coordinator Shane Bowen.
Bowen’s decision to play prevent defense late in the fourth quarter was criticized after the Broncos completed two passes to set up their game-winning field goal and some believed Brian Burns was part of that chorus. Video of Burns heading to the locker room showed him yelling about drop eight players in the media coverage, but Burns took to social media Tuesday to clarify that he was not directing any anger toward Bowen.
“People took this video of the tunnel everything is out of context“, Burns wrote. “I wasn’t angry with Shane or the call.”
Burns wrote “smart man” in response to a response suggesting he was upset that the Broncos were still able to play this defense, which makes sense even if it may not appease others who think Bowen isn’t the right man for the job.
