Lions defensive back Brian Branch said he started a postgame fight because he was frustrated that Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster blocked his back during the game.
“I did something that was a little childish, but I’m tired of people doing things between games and the refs not realizing it. They’re trying to bully me out there and I’m not doing it – I shouldn’t have done it. It was childish,” Branch said.
Branch said Smith-Schuster hit him illegally on the back and was upset that officials didn’t throw a flag.
“I was illegally blocked in the back,” Branch said. “It was in front of the referee, the referee didn’t do anything. Stuff like that. I could have gotten hurt because of that. But I still shouldn’t have done that.”
Branch admitted he should have handled things differently.
“There was a lot going on, but I should have shown it between the whistles, not after the game,” Branch said. “I apologize.”
