The Prime Minister believes that Brexit has had certain advantages, Downing Street said on the fifth anniversary of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union.
A spokesperson No. 10 underlined the freedom of EU regulations, helping to make the United Kingdom a more competitive financial center.
However, he said that Sir Keir Starmer also wanted to “better work Brexit for the British people” and strengthen relations with Europe.
The conservatives accused the government of being “determined to dismantle Brexit and bring us back within the reach of the EU”.
But the liberal democrats criticized the Brexit agreement concluded by the conservatives as “a total disaster for our country” and called for close ties with the EU.
The United Kingdom officially left the EU at 11:00 GMT – midnight in Brussels – January 31, 2020, three and a half after the 2016 referendum.
The government has marked the birthday with little fanfare, without official events to celebrate the opportunity.
When asked why the Prime Minister had said nothing specific for the birthday, Downing Street said the government was “very impatient”.
A spokesperson for the number 10 said: “We know that we can do better for Brexit to work for the British people, that it is in the national interest of the United Kingdom to have a more cooperative relationship with the ‘Ue.
“They are our largest trading partner and our closest neighbor, and will be essential to help us fight against threats to our security, and that is why we work with the EU to strengthen our partnership.”
Asked what advantages Brexit had brought, he said that the United Kingdom was “no longer linked by EU supply rules”.
“This is a great advantage for us, as well as our freedom to adapt our regulation of financial services to make them more suitable for the environment of the British market, and this has improved the competitiveness of London as a financial center”, he added.
Since he won power, Sir Keir, who supported the rest in the EU and once supported a second referendum, has promised to “reset” relations with block 27 nation and to ensure a best agreement.
However, he stressed that the United Kingdom will not join the EU or the single market, which allows goods, services and people to move freely between the Member States which also apply many common rules and standards.
The government has also promised that the United Kingdom will not join the customs union – an agreement between EU countries will not charge taxes called prices on things from outside the block.
During the weekend, Sir Keir will welcome the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, before attending a meeting of EU leaders in Brussels on Monday.
Conservative chief Kemi Badenoch called Brexit “the greatest vote of trust in our country”, but said that there was “still a lot to do”.
She said that a trade agreement with the United States would be an “Brexit opportunity that we must seize”.
Nigel Farage, one of the key personalities in the Brexit campaign, said it was a constitutionally successful success and in terms of foreign policy but admitted that many of those who voted to leave would say “it was a huge disappointment” .
The leader in the United Kingdom’s reform said that huge figures had voted for Brexit to cut immigration, but the figures had increased, which it blamed in the previous conservative government.
He rejected the idea that the public had been misleading about the advantages of Brexit and said that if it had been in charge, immigration would have dropped.
The former chief negotiator of Brexit, Lord Frost, told the BBC Radio 4 broadcasting house, Sir Keir wanted to “go up in the orbit (of the block) by stealth”, with rules on food standards and other areas set in Brussels.
The Tory Peer argued that the current agreement on Brexit worked well and it was not necessary to start again to “remove them again”.
The liberal democratic chief, Sir Ed Davey, used the birthday to reiterate his call to an agreement from the customs union of the United Kingdom, claiming that he “would unlock growth, would demonstrate British leadership and give us the best Main possible to play against President Trump “.
The Green MP Ellie Chowns also called on the United Kingdom to join the customs union and to agree with a young mobility program with the block, which would facilitate young people to study and work in the EU.
She added that “complete membership in the EU remains the best option for the United Kingdom” and said that her party would continue “a policy to join as soon as the political will is present”.
The full interview with Lord Frost will be on the BBC Radio 4 broadcasting house from 9:00 GMT Sunday
