Brazilian singer Ayres Sasaki fatally electrocuted while hugging fan at concert

Ayres Sasaki, a Brazilian rock singer, died last week after hugging a soaking wet fan, causing a fatal electric shock during a concert in Salinópolis, Pará state, Brazil.

The incident occurred on July 13 at the Solar Hotel, where Sasaki was performing, after his contact with the fan caused a jolt in a nearby cable and electrocuted him, The Mirror reported.

The 35-year-old singer is survived by his wife of 11 months, Mariana, who posted on her Instagram Story the following day expressing gratitude for the support fans have shown.

“I would like to thank you for every message of affection and comfort, for every prayer during this difficult time we are going through,” she wrote, in a quote obtained by Brazilian news site Istoé Gente.

Salinópolis police are continuing to investigate the incident and Pará civil police have collected witness testimonies and requested expert reports, the outlet reported. It is not yet clear why the fan was wet when he hugged Sasaki.

Solar Hotel posted a statement on its Instagram account: “We are fully committed to supporting his family and taking the necessary measures. We reaffirm our commitment to fully cooperate with the relevant authorities for the proper clarification of the events,” the hotel said in a translated message. “Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of Ayres Sasaki during this difficult time.”

Friends of the musician have posted messages of support online following the tragedy.

Filmmaker Raphael Macedo shared his own tribute on Instagram, calling Sasaki a friend and writing: “Always a wonderful person and loved by all” … “Divine plans, no one explains them, but I’m sure you would like to be remembered for your voice, your joy and your friendship!”
