Brandon Aiyuk and the 49ers meet Monday amid contract termination – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Contract talks between wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the 49ers could be moving forward.

Aiyuk resisted San Francisco’s voluntary and mandatory workouts earlier this offseason as he seeks a lucrative contract extension that should make him one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL.

There have been many twists and turns during the months of negotiations, including the 49ers fielding trade offers for Aiyuk leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft and, most recently, Aiyuk claiming in a social media video that San Francisco “doesn’t don’t want him.”

However, the latest developments could be a positive sign that both sides are moving towards an agreement.

ESPN analyst Ryan Clark reported Monday on “NFL Live” that Aiyuk would meet with the 49ers on Monday after the star wide receiver requested a meeting with team officials, and that Aiyuk preferred to stay in San Francisco.

“They’re meeting the San Francisco 49ers today,” Clark said on “NFL Live.” “Him and his representation, Ryan Williams of Athletes First. And Brandon Aiyuk told us that he wanted to organize this meeting himself. And when he sat down with The Pivot, he said he takes these negotiations personal. That the way they negotiated with him, the way they explained to him why he was worth what he was worth, it touched him.

“It has affected him. He says he wants to be in San Francisco first, but is comfortable playing elsewhere if that’s something the San Francisco 49ers are willing to do via an exchange.”

Aiyuk posted a photo on social media Sunday night of himself on a plane with a location tag “Bay Area, California,” leading fans to speculate why he was in the Bay Area after appeared to be training elsewhere throughout the offseason.

Well, now we know. However, it remains to be seen whether Monday’s impromptu meeting with the 49ers will soon result in an agreement.
