HELSINKI (AP) — Hollywood’s Brad Pitt and Australian musician Nick Cave made their debut as entertainers in an exhibition in Finland presenting sculptures and ceramics created by the movie star and singer-songwriter.
The Sara Hilden Art Museum in the southern Finnish city of Tampere was originally intended to display only the wide variety of works by British artist Thomas Houseago – known for his sculptures – but it reportedly persuaded the museum to include works by his friends Pitt and Grotte.
“Cave and Pitt are already renowned in their respective fields of music and film, but this is the first time they have exhibited their artwork – pieces that were created during an ongoing dialogue with Houseago. “, said the Finnish museum.
Pitt and Cave traveled to Tampere, a college town known for its vibrant culture and music scene, for a pre-opening event on Saturday. Finnish media reported that the pair admitted to being excited and nervous about presenting their art in public for the first time.
Among the nine works exhibited by Pitt, 58, is a house-like structure cast in clear silicone and fired with bullets and a plasterboard depicting a shooting scene.
Pitt would have started making ceramic art following his divorce from Angelina Jolie in 2017.
“For me, it’s all about self-reflection,” Pitt told Finnish public broadcaster YLE. “It’s about, you know, where did I go wrong in my relationships? Where did I miss?
“It grew out of owning what I call a radical inventory of myself, getting really horribly honest with myself and…considering those I may have hurt and the times I’ve just been wrong. “said the Oscar-winning American actor. and film producer told YLE.
From Cave, known for his dark baritone voice as the frontman of his band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, the exhibit features a series of ceramic figurines that depict the life of the devil. He designed, painted and glazed the 17 figures between 2020 and this year.
“I wanted to do the devil because I like red. And I like the color glaze red,” Cave told YLE. “Eventually I decided to do the devil’s life story. For me personally, it brings up something about the idea of forgiveness or the need to be forgiven. It’s a very personal job for me.”
The exhibition opened on Sunday and will run until January 15, 2023.
