The “Bourbon Street Hustler”, Danette Colbert, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for an unrelated case as she faces accusations of second degree murder for having killed a journalist from the Super Bowl.
Colbert, 48, was arrested on February 7 after accompanying Telemundo journalist Adam Manzano, 27, in a hotel room in New Orleans where he was found dead later.
Last year, she was sentenced to a suspended sentence by a parish judge of Orleans after being sentenced for theft and fraud.
The office of the prosecutor general of Louisiana, Liz Murrill, managed to assert before the court that Colbert, who underwent several previous convictions on the crime involving fraud, was a usual offender and deserved a more severe sentence.
“The evidence was overwhelming that this woman was a series fraudster and took advantage of several tourists and innocent for many years in the French district,” said Murrill in a statement sent by e-mail.
Colbert’s lawyer, Jerome Matthews, did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
Stavros Panagoulopoulos, the lawyer representing Colbert in the second degree murder case, refused to comment.
Colbert had been on a probation when the police arrested him for allegedly stolen the mobile phone and the Manzano bank cards, a journalist and television anchor based in Kansas City, Missouri.
