Boston Police Issue Warning Over Counterfeit Bruins, Celtics Tickets

Sports

“Fans who purchase tickets from a secondary source are taking a risk and doing so at their own risk.”

The Boston Globe

Boston Police are warning fans to be careful and only buy from authorized sources when purchasing tickets for the upcoming NBA and NHL playoffs.

Unofficial sellers can sometimes be scammers, selling invalid or counterfeit tickets, Boston police said in an alert Thursday.

“Fans who purchase tickets from a secondary source are taking a risk and doing so at their own risk,” the department said. “Agents want to proactively curb such activity and encourage buyers to only buy from official suppliers. »

The warning comes as the Celtics are scheduled to make the NBA playoffs on Sunday and the Bruins are scheduled to face Toronto in the NHL playoffs on Saturday.

Here are some tips from the Better Business Bureau for avoiding scams:

  1. Buy locally when possible.
  2. Know the difference between a professional ticket reseller and an unregulated, unlicensed ticket seller.
  3. Search for a seller/broker on BBB.org to see what other customers are saying. Check to see if they are members of the National Association of Ticket Brokers. Search for the seller on VerifiedTicketSource.com to confirm you are purchasing from a NATB member resale company.
  4. Use protected payment methods.
  5. Avoid “too good to be true” prices.
