Boris Becker’s ex-wife Lilly: ‘I took all the drugs and drinks I could to forget about the tennis star’

Ex-wife of Boris Becker, who split from the tennis star before rekindling their romance years later, says she took ‘all the drugs in Ibiza’ to try to forget him when he started a new romance.

Sharlely Kerssenberg, 47, said he left her feeling ‘ugly, old and unwanted’ when she found out the three-time Wimbledon champion was engaged to the daughter of his former adviser and manager Axel Meyer-Wölden in 2008.

Shortly after splitting from Dutch model Sharlely, who goes by Lilly, Becker quickly got engaged to his new Alessandra Meyer-Wölden – who was 16 years his junior.

The engagement fell through and Lilly took it over, with the couple marrying in 2009 and having a son, Amadeus, together. They then separated in 2018.

Becker has since served a prison sentence in the UK for hiding his assets after declaring bankruptcy, with Lilly criticizing him earlier this year for neglecting his family and saying his 30-month sentence had ‘ruined his reputation’.

His latest revelations about the couple’s tumultuous relationship will be made in ITVX’s upcoming documentary, Boris Becker: The Rise & Fall, which will be released later this month.

The docuseries tells the inside story of how one of the biggest sports stars of all time, who was Wimbledon’s youngest winner at just 17, ended up in Wandsworth prison for hiding £2.6million in assets and loans to avoid paying debts. .

Becker’s coaches, childhood friends and former lovers have all spoken out to reveal what he was like behind Grand Slam titles, awards and now jail time.

Among them, his second wife Lilly recalls the toughest times in their relationship, discussing a call she received in London in 2008.

“I woke up, my phone rang,” she said. “I checked at once: this woman is younger, beautiful. It was devastating.

‘I said, ‘f*** it!’ I had to go to Ibiza. I have never felt so ugly, old and unwanted. The pain should go away.

She said of her time on the party island: “I’ve tried all the mushrooms (magic mushrooms), all the alcohol, all the drugs in Ibiza. I couldn’t be drunk enough to forget this man.

The couple later reunited and married. She now reflects on her relationship with the German tennis player: “I was just like, what’s wrong with this guy?” He’s cute, friendly, funny, but he’s also cocky, he’s a liar.

“I was so deeply in love with him. With his charisma, his fire, his humor. The things that the public loves him for.

German media have claimed the six-time Grand Slam champion has asked his lawyers to try to stop parts of the ITVX and Paramount Plus series from airing.

Lilly said: “Boris is a narcissist. A selfish person. He scares her that she cannot influence the content of this documentary.

“He is used to controlling and manipulating others. But I will not be silenced even if he sends his lawyers after me again.

Becker won three Wimbledon championships during his playing career, including his first when he was just 17 years old.

“He wants to forbid me to talk about our son. He’s only seen Amadeus once this year – and immediately posted a picture on Instagram to show what a great dad he is. It’s who he is.

When asked why she chose to appear in the documentary, Lilly replied, “It’s a perfect ending. A farewell to my life with Boris Becker. I learned my lesson.

“After the documentary, I never want to have to speak publicly about him again. I just want the divorce so I can finally enjoy my life. Enough is enough!’

Lilly is now awaiting divorce from Becker and is in a relationship again, telling German tabloid BILD: “I have a very happy relationship on equal footing with my partner Thorsten.”

In an interview in February, after the former tennis star was released from prison in the UK and deported to Germany, Lilly opened up about the couple’s acrimonious split and criticized Becker for how he was hurting managed his finances.
