Borderlands 4 is already on sale. Helldiverse 2 is on hiatus, in a way. The head of Assassin’s Creed leaves after around two decades at Ubisoft. Welcome to the latest edition of Morning Afternoon checkpoint, Kotakuthe daily roundup of gaming news and culture. This week is already off to a crazy start. We’re officially in peak season for the Fall 2025 release schedule. Battlefield 6 it was last week. Pokémon Legends: ZA it’s this week. And a series of big launches will wrap things up leading up to Halloween. But in the meantime, let’s remember how Final Fantasy Tactics progress look at. This is a magnificent 16-bit pixel art. If only the rest of the game was this good!
Borderlands 4 is 20% off one month after launch
It’s specifically on PC where sales might be weak due to all the hubbub over performance issues last month. Gearbox Entertainment head Randy Pitchford previously promised fans that the franchise’s latest looter shooter would last a long time without any massive discounts. Does it count? “Sales like this and Borders 3 appearing on console subscription programs took over 5 years from the game’s launch,” he wrote earlier this year in a thread highlighting a brief 95% discount for the series.
“Take advantage of it when it’s here! And to set expectations, it will be even longer before this kind of thing happens in the next cycle with Borderlands 4.” Let’s see if Borderlands 4 drops to $50 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S by Black Friday.

Japanese government asks OpenAI to stop stealing its IP
Minoru Kiuchi, Minister of State for Economic Security, announced the news at a press conference last week. “Anime and manga are irreplaceable treasures that we can be proud of all over the world,” he said (via ComputersMedia). Sucker Punch will remain a single-game studio
Don’t expect that Yotei’s Ghost team to start pursuing multiple projects at once like Insomniac Games or other PlayStation studios. “If we were good at juggling four projects, yes, we would have a remaster, and will do one, and one of those, and do a fan request that would be really popular… but we can only do one thing,” said Sucker Punch director Brian Fleming. VGC. “So it kind of has to be your best idea, right? And that’s really clarifying. It’s not like there aren’t 15 good ideas. But you can only do one. And by the way, you can only do one every five years or so. So that choice is really important. I mean, it’s choosing your college and your major every five years.”
Assassin’s Creed Franchise boss leaves Ubisoft after reshuffle
Marc-Alexis Côté is leaving the French publisher following the recent announcement that Tencent-backed subsidiary Vantage Studios will oversee Assassin’s Creed and the company’s other major franchises, IGN reports. “Following the organizational restructuring announced in March 2025, Marc-Alexis Côté has chosen to pursue a new path elsewhere than Ubisoft,” a Ubisoft spokesperson said in a statement. “While we are saddened to see him go, we are confident that our talented teams will continue the strong foundation he helped build.” »
Demon’s Souls Remake the studio is working on a new action game
Bluepoint Games has a new project lined up according to a recent job posting (via Tech4Gamers). PlayStation studio was previously working on a live service that was reportedly canceled God of War spin-off. A new job posting, since removed from the website, says the team is hiring a senior combat designer for a third-person melee action game. This certainly reduces it!
THE Helldiverse 2 team takes a break from new content to improve performance
The sci-fi extraction shooter has received many significant updates this year, but the development team says it’s now moving toward fixing the game’s overall performance state. “We’re taking this very seriously and are now focusing a lot more on fixing these issues to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again,” director Mikael Eriksson said in a recent interview (via Eurogamer). “We’ve made the decision to push some of our content and feature updates a bit into the future while we address these issues to ensure we can reach a much more stable state that we can believe in.”
