Bono was on site at the Cannes Film Festival Friday evening for the world premiere of his new Apple documentary, “Bono: Stories of Bedrender”, where singer U2 received a standing ovation of 7 minutes after the screening.
Bono became emotional during the ovation of a few minutes. While the applause began to decline, he opened his speech with a few words and a promise to speak French fluently next year.
“I am not a Frenchman. I am an Irishman. I am not even a self -taught man,” Bono told the crowd. “You wrote this story. The Edge wrote this story. Adam (Clayton) and Larry (Mullen Jr.) wrote this story. (Paul) McGuinness wrote this story.”
Bono later recognized his “Redition stories”, Andrew Dominik, who was not present during the Premiere de Cannes. “I love your vision,” said Bono. “I cannot believe that you have these performances of me.”
At one point, Bono praised the actor and filmmaker Sean Penn, who was in the audience, and said: “If I were in the trenches – like real trenches, as opposed to those of a shoot – I would like to be with Sean Penn in these trenches. He was there for me. Thank you again. ” (Bono interpreted the song “Eden (To Find Love)” for the soundtrack of Penn 2020 documentary “Citizen Penn”.)
“Bono: Stories of abandon” Documents the one-man program of singer U2 of the same name, which is based on his famous memory “Abandon: 40 songs, a story” and his tour that accompanies him. According to his line line, the doc “withdraws the curtain on a remarkable life and the family, the friends and the faith which disputed it, revealing personal stories on his trip as son, father, husband, activist and rockstar. With a film never seen before, exclusive images of life and inheritance.”
Bono is not unrelated to Cannes, having owned a residence in the south of France since the 90s. U2 also presented the group’s concert film, “U2 3D”, during a midnight screening at the Festival in 2007, before which they gave an emblematic performance on the steps of the Palais.
