BoE’s Bailey: I expect next month’s inflation figure to show a fairly sharp decline

BOE Bailey on the wires saying:

• We’re pretty much on track to get to where we thought we would be in February on inflation.
• I expect next month’s inflation figure to show a fairly sharp decline
• The impact of the conflict in the Middle East is less than expected

A year ago next month the monthly figures showed a gain of 1.6%. When that disappears from the equation next month, it will significantly reduce the annual rate. It’s just the math. Hence Bailey’s confidence on the inflation trend next month.
