A fisherman discovered a partially submerged decomposition body in the Otay Lower reservoir on Sunday, which prompted a homicide detective investigation, San Diego police announced.
The call was initially received by the Chula Vista police service around 9:40 a.m., said San Diego police lieutenant Jon Dungan.
The officers of Chula Vista arrived and determined that the body was in the jurisdiction of the San Diego Police Service.
San Diego police then worked with the fire service to understand how to recover the corpse, because it was not accessible from the shore, Dungan said.
“The victim was underwater for an unknown period and, most likely, due to the decrease in water level, was exposed,” said Dungan. “The way the victim was overwhelmed is what makes this case suspect and is part of our current investigation.”
The investigators did not provide details on the place where the body was found, but the divers of the city of San Diego removed it from the water around 12:15 pm and took it to Earth, said the Investigators.
The man’s body was not immediately identifiable due to the extreme state of decomposition, said Dungan. The office of the ComtĂ©’s medical examiner strives to determine the cause of death.
Investigators asked anyone with information to contact the homicide unit at (619) 531-2293 or crimes traffic jams at (888) 580-8477.
