Bluesky to add DMs, video support and custom feed curation to the app

Bluesky has launched a new product roadmap for the coming months. The decentralized social network announced Tuesday that it plans to introduce direct messages, video support, improved personalized feeds and new moderation controls.

In a blog post, the company said it was developing a direct messaging (DM) service that would initially be integrated into the Bluesky app, based on the decentralized AT protocol – the protocol used by Bluesky – and that it would develop later a DM on protocol. . Bluesky said this initial version would make one-on-one chat easier and have controls allowing users to limit who can text them.

The company says it is also working on improving its personalized feeds, which allow users to organize their feeds. You can use third-party tools to improve custom feed functionality, but Bluesky says it’s now working on features like in-app feed creation, better feed discovery, a new trending feed view, the ability to submit posts to feeds, organize feeds. submissions and moderate them manually; and a way to better organize feeds on the home screen.

Bluesky said it was also working on anti-harassment tools, although it did not detail what those tools might do.

Additionally, the social network is exploring the possibility of expanding video support on the platform as well as an “OAuth” login mechanism that would allow users to “log in with Bluesky” to different services related to the social network. Currently, users must use and remember a separate password to log in to third-party apps.
