A man has died in a rock climbing accident after being crushed by a rock fall in the Blue Mountains region of NSW.

The climber in his 30s was struck by the 30cm boulder during an ascent known as ‘Sweet Dreams’ in the mountain range west of Sydney around midday on Sunday.

The man was climbing with a friend who was able to call for help.

But the man went into cardiac arrest and died shortly afterwards at the scene.

It is believed the climber was wearing a helmet when he was struck by the rock.

A crime scene has been established with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
