The head of the BJP allegedly alleged that the participation of Tharoor in the rally, given his previous role as a diplomat of the United Nations, goes against the established position of the country on the issue.
Friday, the BJP in Kerala criticized the deputy of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and the deputy of Lok Sabha Shashi Tharoor for his participation in the Rally of the Muslim League of the Indian Union supporting Palestine, qualifying it as an event “Pro-Hamas”.
One day after tens of thousands of supporters of the IUML reached the streets of Kozhikode, expressing their solidarity with the people of Palestine ravaged by the war, the president of the state of the BJP, K Surendran, was said concerned about the fact that the conflict was used to fuel community tensions in the state.
The IUML rally in Kozhikode was “pro-hamas” and anti-national slogans had been raised throughout the program, he said at a press conference here.
The head of the BJP allegedly alleged that the participation of Tharoor in the rally, given his previous role as the United Nations diplomat, goes against the established position of the country on the issue.
Surendran said that the frequentation of Tharoor at the rally was a decision to obtain votes of municipal groups, calling this betrayal to support Hamas, which, according to him, supports anti-Indian forces.
He also accused Tharoor of having tried to exploit community polarization before the next Lok Sabha surveys.
“It has now become clear that what they want is votes, not peace,” said Surendran.
The head of the BJP also accused the senior IUML official and MLA MK Munner of having assimilated the “Hamas terrorists” with liberty fighters like Subhash Chandra Bose and Bhagat Singh.
Earlier in the day, a chief of the CPI in power (M) criticized Tharoor for his speech during the Rally of the IUML, alleging that some of his remarks have looked towards Israel and that he did not recognize as A “terrorist” nation.
The chief of the ICC (M), M Swaraj, launched the allegation against the head of the Congress, referring to his remarks in his speech in which he, in unequivocal terms, condemned the attack by the Palestinian Armed Group Hamas in Israel on October 7, describing it as an “act of terror”.
Tharoor responded to reactions on social networks of pro-Hamas groups and certain leftist activists, stressing his long-term support for the inhabitants of Palestine and clarifying that a sentence of his speech was to get out of his context.
The IUML, a key ally of the United Front Democratic Front (UDF) led by the Congress at Kerala, organized a huge gathering in Kozhikode on Thursday condemning the blind murders reported during the Israeli attack on Gaza.
Tharoor, as a chief of guest, condemned the war in progress, calling it “one of the most painful human rights disasters” in the past 19 days.
