Bizarre Reason Why All US Open Matches Were Suspended With Players Stuck On Courts
The US Open was interrupted on Monday – with all matches suspended for several minutes – after the Hawkeye system was disrupted by a fire alarm.
Players like Caroline Wozniacki and Daniil Medvedev were briefly left on the court in their round of 16 ties at Flushing Meadows.
It quickly became apparent that a fire alarm had gone off in the broadcast building, which also houses the team responsible for electronic calls at the US Open.
People inside the building were evacuated, meaning play had to be halted for six minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium and elsewhere.
“After determining that it was simply an alarm, play resumed. In total, play was interrupted for six minutes,” said a statement from tournament organizers.
