Each year, around 3,600 people are killed by snakebites in Guinea, which has one of the highest concentrations of mambas, cobras and vipers on Earth. At the country’s specialist snakebite clinic, patients arrive after arduous journeys to receive life-saving antivenom. But others go to traditional healers first, a delay that risks serious complications and death.
