Billy Porter will not pose on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art this year.
THE Cinderella The actor shared that he will not attend the 2024 Met Gala in order to mourn the death of his mother, who passed away in February.
“I just lost my mom,” Billy exclusively told E! News on the red carpet of the TIME100 gala on April 25. “I have to take care of myself, so I do that. And that means not going to the party sometimes.”
Joking that “Daddy’s tired”, he added: “I can’t do it all.” (For more with Billy, tune into E! News tonight, April 25, at 11 p.m.)
And while the Laid alumnus may not be in attendance at fashion’s biggest night, he’s certainly been making strides when it comes to promoting his latest album, 2023’s Black Mona Lisa.
“I’m on the touring circuit at the moment,” Billy explained, “I’m doing a lot of prides and music festivals, I’m touring the UK. So I’m slowly trying to develop that part of my audience.”
