Billy Joe Saunders told talkSPORT that Chris Eubank Jr was “irrelevant” as he hit back at his former rival for his taunts about the Canelo fight.
The Briton suffered his first loss to the Mexican last month as his corner ended the fight with an orbit fracture suffered in the eighth round.
Eubank Jr bet £ 10,000 on Canelo’s save victory and happily celebrated his foe’s defeat.
He posted a video of himself laughing as he watched the fight end.
In response, Saunders broke his silence and now told talkSPORT: “He needs me, I don’t need him.
“At the end of the day, I’m 31, if I never want to work again, if I want to sit down, if I want to relax, I can.
“And it should be so, I spent a lot of time boxing and paid my dues. The sport has been very, very good for me.
“But he doesn’t have a big fight, there’s no one who cares because he’s not bringing anything to the table.
“So he has to come forward and see himself by doing some sort of, no matter what it’s around my situations.
“Because he doesn’t matter to everyone, no one really cares about him.
“The minute he’s 32 or whatever, he’s never been a world champion.
“He’s still fighting British or Commonwealth level fighters, far from being world level fighters.
“He’s got to be trying to sell himself, I guess, which is understandable.
“But it just doesn’t matter to everyone.”
