Naomi Watts revealed Billy Crudup’s cheeky comment about his testicles to cheer her up during their first diaper together.
In her new book, “Dare I Say It: Everything I Wish I Knew About Menopause,” the 56-year-old actress recalls wearing an estrogen patch for hormone therapy when she began her menopause.
“I was afraid that if he saw (the patch) he would realize that it meant I was in menopause: I was no longer a vibrant, fertile being,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, the adhesive in the patch leaves a mark on the skin that is very difficult to get rid of.”
Watts remembers ripping off the patch in preparation for a hot, intense evening at Crudup’s, only to spend a long time scrubbing his skin “raw” in the bathroom so he wouldn’t see the marks.
The “Morning Show” actor, also 56, then asked if everything was okay because the “Mulholland Drive” star was taking so long.
“I came away mortified,” she wrote. “I stumbled and fumbled for words, but nothing really came out. »
Watts eventually explained to Crudup that she was wearing menopause patches and didn’t want him to know.
“A smile appeared on his face. He seemed very relieved that the problem was not due to a lack of desire,” she shared. “He told me he thought it was great that I was taking care of myself and he asked me how he could help me.”
To make the “Ring” star feel better about herself, the Tony nominee opened up about her own experience with aging.
“Hey, if it makes you any better: I have gray hairs on my balls,” he told her, according to the book.
Watts joked that, to this day, those words remain “the most romantic words” she has ever heard “on screen or off.”
“And that includes the script for every film I’ve ever been in,” she wrote. “And even the very affectionate marriage proposal from this same man, which came seven years later.”
The “King Kong” star and Crudup fell for each other on the set of their Netflix series “Gypsy” in 2017.
They conducted the meeting in private and didn’t make their red carpet debut until five years later.
The lovebirds sparked rumors of a 2023 engagement and confirmed two months later that they had tied the knot.
Before their relationship, Watts dated Liev Schreiber for 11 years before breaking up in 2016. They share two children: son Sasha, 17, and daughter Kai, 16.
Schreiber, 57, secretly married Taylor Neisen in 2023 and they welcomed their first child together, daughter Hazel, a month later.
Crudup, for his part, shares his son William, 21, with his ex-girlfriend Mary-Louise Parker. The “Almost Famous” actor famously left Parker when she was seven months pregnant with Claire Danes.
