The Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills have the daunting task of facing off in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs this Sunday. They will also face potentially frigid weather, with the latest forecast out of Orchard Park, New York, calling for launch temperatures that appear to be below 0 degrees.
CBS Sports senior reporter Tracy Wolfson reports that it’s snowing in Orchard Park three hours before kickoff. The temperature is in the 20s, but it feels like it’s in the 19s. The temperature is going to drop further.
The Weather Channel is forecasting a daytime high of just 20 degrees near Highmark Stadium for Sunday, with the temperature dropping to 8 degrees that evening, when the Bills are scheduled to kick off against the Ravens at 6:30 p.m. on CBS and Paramount+. AccuWeather’s RealFeel forecast estimates the temperature will be more like -3 degrees by kickoff, and both outlets are also predicting at least a 40 percent chance of snow.
Wind isn’t expected to be a major problem, with northwest gusts expected to top out at 5-10 mph, according to The Weather Channel, but if snow showers combine with frigid temperatures, two of the main contenders in the The AFC could find themselves in a particularly wintry mix. .
Theoretically, this benefits the visiting Ravens, who are slight favorites heading into the game, given their well-established running game, now featuring bruising Derrick Henry.
Ahead of Sunday, a lake effect snow warning is also in effect for the Orchard Park area. Travel is expected to be difficult, with poor visibility and a “deep layer of snow on the roads” over the next few days, with forecasts estimating between 4 and 8 inches of snowfall in the worst affected areas.
