Billie Eilish Clarifies Comments About Artists’ “Wasteful” Vinyls

In fact, the nine-time Grammy winner was speaking generally about the music business when she recently pointed out how “wasteful” it is for artists to sell different packaging and vinyl pressings of the same album.

“I wasn’t targeting anyone, these are systemic, industry-wide issues,” she wrote on Instagram Stories on March 31, amid online speculation that she was throwing shade at her fellow singers. “And when it comes to variations, so many artists post them, including ME!”

Billie continued: “The climate crisis is happening now and it’s about all of us being part of the problem and trying to do better.”

In her post, the 22-year-old also urged people to “stop putting words in my mouth and actually read what I said” about sustainability, the original article where her comments came from now viral.

Billie added: “sheesh.”

The “Why was I made?” the artist previously spoke out against the common industry practice of releasing variations of the same album to increase sales during a joint interview with his mother Maggie Baird on ecological initiatives. “We live in a time where, for whatever reason, it’s very important for certain artists to make all kinds of different vinyls and packaging,” she said.
