Bill Maher slams far-left ‘obnoxious posers’ who attacked Cheryl Hines after husband RFK Jr.’s support for Trump: ‘Intimidation’

Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time,” attacked liberals who criticized actress Cheryl Hines for supporting her husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after he endorsed former President Trump last month.

“Going after your wife? Even the mafia doesn’t do that,” Maher said on the latest episode of his HBO talk show.

Hines, one of the co-stars of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” faced a torrent of criticism after sharing an X-rated post on Aug. 23 expressing support for Kennedy and his campaign following their decision.

The statement read in part: “The decision has been made to suspend the presidency of my husband, Robert Kennedy Jr., and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all those who worked tirelessly and lovingly on his campaign.”

Hines’ statement seems conciliatory given that the actress is not a fan of Trump.

Several days after posting his photo, Kennedy told TMZ that his wife supported his decision even though she didn’t want him to.

“It’s the opposite of what she would have wanted to do,” he told the outlet, adding: “She agreed because she loves me and she wanted to support me, but it’s not something she’s ever encouraged, I would say.”

In addition to millions of views, Hines’ post drew angry reactions from leftists disturbed that she did not publicly criticize her husband for his support of Trump.

Maher lashed out at those disgruntled social media users Friday night, calling them bullies and saying they revealed an “ugliness” to liberals he had never seen before.

Maher began by describing how well-liked Hines is in Hollywood.

He quoted Larry David, creator and actor of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” who said she was “the best person I’ve ever met. The only person in Hollywood who doesn’t have a single enemy.”

The host then commented, “Well, now she does, because she didn’t throw her husband under a bus when her husband made a decision about something that she made it clear she didn’t agree with.”

“But that didn’t satisfy the aforementioned odious poseurs of the far left,” he added, then read aloud some of the messages tearing at Hines, including one from “West Wing” actor Bradley Whitford.

The day after Kennedy endorsed Trump, Whitford attacked Hines on X, saying: “Hey @CherylHines you are very wise while your lunatic husband supports a convicted rapist who brags about taking away women’s human rights. That is courageous. A great example for children. A great example of courage.”

The “Real Time” host asked Whitford.

“You know what I find courageous? Explaining to a woman – but not to her face, of course – that she should sacrifice her marriage so that you can read something on Twitter that meets with your approval.”

Tearing up these reactions in general, he continued: “You want to know why I have more problems with the left than I used to? That’s just the way it is. There’s an ugliness to them that they didn’t have before. The liberals I respected growing up weren’t like that.”

“There are a lot of people today who I would call liberals in theory. In theory, they hate harassment. It’s terrible. In practice, their attitude is: It’s not harassment if I put your head in the toilet.”

Taking another dig at Whitford, the comedian said: “In theory, liberals are compassionate. In practice, this guy can’t even comprehend one of the most basic dilemmas common to all human beings: When you’re married, sometimes you have to swallow some crap.”
