Bill Maher Questions Whether Trump Should Go To Jail After Guilty Verdict: ‘MAGA Nation Will Go Crazy’

“Real Time” host Bill Maher questioned whether former President Trump should go to prison following this week’s guilty verdict.

“Here’s the key question: Will he go to jail? Will this judge dare to do it? And should he do it?” Maher asked during a panel discussion Friday evening.

“I mean, I’ve heard some people say that if his name wasn’t Donald Trump, he would definitely get some prison time. But sending a former American president to prison, I don’t know if that’s something. I ask: ” Maher continued.

Former Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., responded by predicting that Trump will not go to prison based on convictions in Manhattan for similar crimes.

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod has expressed reluctance to send the presumptive Republican nominee to prison.

“Look, a lot of people in my tribe don’t like it when I say this, but yeah, I think there’s something in jailing a former president, especially for something like this,” Axelrod told Maher. “It is, to me, disturbing for our country. And I would be really shocked if this judge sentenced him to prison for this.”

“I mean, MAGA nation is going to go crazy,” Maher said. “I don’t know if that’s a reason to do something or not, but they will.”

The HBO star then worried that a “civil war” could break out if Trump was sent to prison, specifically a “race war,” accusing his supporters of being outraged by a black prosecutor and a Hispanic judge who caused this.

“A civil war in this country, I’m sorry to say, becomes a race war,” Maher said. “That’s the sad truth about this country. And if they put him in jail, I mean, the first thing his supporters will say is, ‘Oh, it is what it is.’ A black prosecutor. You know, all these prosecutors are black. The judge was not white.

Trump’s defenders have slammed the guilty verdictaccusing Democrats of using the law to try to defeat him in the upcoming presidential election in November.
