The actor Bill Maher embarked on a screed against President Trump, accusing him of “flirting with authoritarianism”, weeks after a friendly dinner with his longtime enemy.
Citing his cordial dinner with Trump at the end of March as proof that he can be fair, Maher returned to his well -used criticism that the president “flirted with fascism”.
“Trump is the only president when you are relieved when he does not hold his campaign promises,” joked Maher in his eponymous program “Real Time with Bill Maher”.
Maher seized how Trump joked by saying that he will not be a dictator “except the first day”, as well as his machinations on the service of a third term as president despite the 22nd amendment which prevented him from running again.
“This is the problem of the jokes of dictators. They do not stay in jokes. And flirting with authoritarianism does not remain to flirt,” said Maher.
“I tell you, humans cannot trust just flirting with other attractive humans, and the Maga crowd cannot trust to flirt with the dictatorship,” he said. “All those who flirt the cheaters. But the whole cheating begins with the flirt.”
Maher was an ardent critic of Trump throughout his first mandate, but has since made breakthrough with the conservatives and libertarians for his crusade against stupidity.
Earlier this year, the Rock Star Kid Rock encouraged the two to meet and the two men accepted. Maher publicly admitted that during this dinner, “everything I didn’t like about him was, I swear to God, absent.”
Maher argued that his honest evaluation of Trump should give him credibility with the Conservatives to highlight the president’s faults.
“I took a little s – t Loony left to simply postpone the report, honestly, how the president reacted in private when I criticized him on his face,” said Maher.
“I was honest about it. And that stands up to say to the conservatives: “Now, ok, you enjoyed my honesty and my balls, now I want to see your balls,” he joked. “What I mean is – is your turn.”
