Bill Belichick attends Northwest women’s lacrosse game

Outside of football, Bill Belichick’s other love is lacrosse.

He played the sport in high school and college, as did his three children. Belichick’s daughter, Amanda, even coaches women’s lacrosse at Holy Cross.

Belichick liked to mention lacrosse during Patriots press conferences and even brought in former players, such as Chris Hogan, to play for New England.

Naturally, in his first year in decades without an NFL coaching job, Belichick spent his Saturday attending Northwestern University’s women’s lacrosse game against Ohio State.

In a photo shared to the program’s X account, the former New England head coach stood alongside Wildcats head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller. Belichick and Amonte Hiller wore Northwestern jackets and matching purple hats.

The two men have known each other for almost two decades. Originally explained in a 2008 article by the Chicago TribuneThey first spoke when Amonte Hiller tried to make contact with Belichick in 2007.

Northwestern was entering the NCAA Tournament as the two-time defending champion, and she wanted to talk to someone who understood her unique position. Amonte Hiller and her husband found a way to deliver her message to Belichick, who led the Patriots to three Super Bowl titles in four years a few years earlier.

Given her passion for lacrosse, he called her back.

“I thought someone was making fun of me,” Amonte Hiller said. GQ Sports. “But it was really him.”

Since then, the two men have known each other. Amonte Hiller was one of Belichick’s daughter’s mentors as she rose through the lacrosse coaching ranks.

Now, in 2024, Amonte Hiller, an eight-time national champion with Northwestern, remains the Wildcats’ coach, but Belichick is out of a job. The six-time Super Bowl champion Patriots, however, stayed busy.

While in Illinois, Belichick was also spotted at a White Sox game on Friday.

Belichick also spent this past weekend at the University of Washington as the keynote speaker for the coaching clinic. He also attended one of the team’s spring practices while on campus.
