While promoting his new memories, “The Art of Winning: lessons from a life in football”, Belichick was interviewed by Tony Dokoupil for “CBS Sunday Morning”, where he talked about his career and the book.
According to Dokoupil, Hudson was a “constant presence” during the interview, where she seated outside the camera.
Towards the end of the interview, Dokoupil questioned Belichick on his relationship with Hudson and how he treated the intense attention that had accompanied him.
“I have never been too worried about what everyone thinks,” said Belichick. “Just try to do what I feel is best for me and what is good.”
When Dokoupil asked how the two met, Hudson intervened: “We are not talking about it.”
The interruption, captured in a clip shared by CBS, has become viral, viewers specifying on Hudson’s apparent role in Belichick’s career. Publications like the Washington Post and the Boston Globe have published articles of opinion on the relationship of the couple, and sports figures like Charles Barkley were worried about the sequel to the viral clip.
In response, on April 30, Belichick published a statement through the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and accused CBS of portraying a “false story” of his relationship with Hudson.
“Jordon, with whom I share both a personal and professional relationship, intervened to reiterate this point to help refocus the discussion,” he wrote in the press release.
That day, Hudson shared an email that Belichick sent to his team before the interview. In his email, he expressed his frustration on what the points of sale concentrated during his book tour, saying: “This is what I expected from the media.”
CBS responded to their comments, saying that their interview with Belichick had no “prerequisites or limitations”.
