The final electoral roll of Bihar is expected to be released on Tuesday (September 30) after the conclusion of the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the state’s electoral rolls after 22 years.
The Election Commission is expected to announce the poll schedule next week. The electoral authority will visit Patna on October 4 and 5 to take stock of the poll preparations.
The draft electoral lists were published on August 1 and were open to “complaints and objections” from individuals and political parties until September 1. There were 7.24 million voters on the preliminary lists.
The first phase of elections is expected to take place soon after the Chhath festival in late October.
Reports indicate that the EC has deployed 470 election observers for Bihar and some assembly bypasses.
The term of the 243-member Bihar Assembly ends on November 22.
The last assembly elections in Bihar were held in three phases.
