Bihar elections: Tej Pratap Yadav returns to Mahua – a seat with unpredictable victories

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav will contest the Bihar elections from Mahua. His new party, Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD), has announced candidates for 21 seats.

Yadav, a former minister in the state government, launched the party after his father expelled him from the RJD for six years in May.

Yadav had represented the Mahua seat until 2020 when RJD shifted him to Hasanpur.

Mukesh Kumar Raushan of the RJD is the sitting MLA from Mahua seat. In the 2020 elections, 172,026 voters exercised their right to vote, representing 60.04% of the total electorate in the constituency.

In 2015, RJD candidate Tej Pratap Yadav won the seat.

For years, JD(U) held this seat without serious competition. However, in 2015, the RJD broke through with a surprise victory, marking one of the most dramatic upsets in the constituency. Since then, competitions here have become increasingly unpredictable.

The constituency will go to polls on November 6 and the result will be declared on November 14. The seat will vote in phase 1 of the Bihar elections.
