Bihar Elections 2025: NDA finalizes seat sharing, BJP and JD(U) contest 101 seats each

The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Sunday (October 12) announced the final seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming elections to the Bihar Legislative Assembly.

According to the formula, the BJP and JD(U) will contest 101 seats each, while Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas) will get 29 seats. Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will contest for six seats each. This is the first time in the history of Bihar polls that the BJP and the JD(U) are contesting the same number of seats in an alliance.

The seat-sharing agreement followed lengthy deliberations in Delhi and Patna involving senior NDA leaders, including BJP election in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan, Vinod Tawde and Nityanand Rai, as well as interactions with leaders of the LJP, RLM and HAM. LJP leader Chirag Paswan, who had initially demanded 40 seats, accepted the reduced share of 29 seats.

Addressing party cadres, Paswan said, according to CNN-News18 sources: “We strongly support the NDA. It is necessary to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Modi for the welfare of Bihar.”

A meeting of the BJP central committee chaired by party president JP Nadda is underway in Delhi to finalize the names of the candidates. The first joint list of NDA candidates is expected on October 13.

Elections to the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases, with polling on November 6 and 11 and counting scheduled for November 14.

Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan, comprising the RJD, Congress, Left parties and VIP, is yet to finalize its seat-sharing deal.
