Big Tech Employee transformed the layoff in entrepreneurial opportunities

Elvi Caperonis dreamed of working in Big Tech – and after five years and more than 100 refusals, she reached it by winning a role in a magnificent company of 7 in 2017.

But in July 2024 – Seven years later – Caperonis was dismissed.

Instead, his dream turns into a nightmare, Caperonis told Business Insider that the layoff had actually stimulated his career.

She was able to focus on her own companies as a career coach, content designer and Superhost Airbnb and increase her six -digit entrepreneurial income in 2024, which Business Insider checked with the documentation.

“Now that I work for myself,” she said, “I have the freedom to live in life in my own words and I discovered deeper happiness.”

Working in Big Tech was exhilarating

It was not that Caperonis did not appreciate his great work of technology. In fact, she loved it.

“I have seen world-class people constitute teams and I have always been at the cutting edge of technology such as AI and automatic learning,” she said. “I have always been fascinated by learning something new and having fun.”

Her business was more like a simple place of work – it was a platform where she prospered the joy of learning and being constantly challenged, an opportunity she called “really exhilarating”.

The role included a six -digit lucrative remuneration package, quality health insurance, remote work opportunities and business parties.

His Liendin continued to grow and grow

In January 2020, Caperonis began to build his brand and his personal belongings on the side. She has created content on LinkedIn to share her personal experiences and practical advice, in the hope of helping others strengthen their self -confidence and their terrestrial jobs in the technology industry.

Thanks to a daily publication calendar – balanced with her full -time work of Big Tech – and some viral messages, she increased her LinkedIn to 10,000 subscribers in a few months.

She started to charge $ 150 per coaching session to help job seekers get their dream jobs in businesses like Meta, Coinbase, Sonos, Microsoft and Amazon.

In 2021, she started doing live sessions on LinkedIn to share her career ideas and expertise, and in 2022, she cultivated her LinkedIn followers at 80,000.

“I had trouble finding new ideas, but I finally shared my rejection journey in several messages, which obtained more than 6.5 million views,” she said. “It was not easy, but sharing my experience and the lessons I learned resonated with a lot of people.”

After having become viral a few times more in 2023, LinkedIn de Caperonis exceeded 100,000 subscribers, which also brought new customers. She began to publish successful testimonies, which helped her increase her prices to $ 499 for a package of three coaching sessions.

In March 2024, just before its layoff, she obtained her first official brand partnership on LinkedIn, which paid her $ 3,200 for three LinkedIn stations.

“This partnership provided a substantial financial boost and validated the value of my work and the scope of my personal brand,” said Caperonis.

Caperonis also started to co-heberger Airbnb with his sister in October 2022 and won the superhost title in 2023. This gave him another flow of income alongside his coaching company, which won them $ 43,911 in revenues in 2023 and almost $ 50,000 in 2024.

The layoff has turned into an entrepreneurial opportunity

In April 2024, only one month after winning its brand partnership, Caperonis was informed that it would be dismissed from its major technology work in July.

Instead of dwelling on adversity, she took advantage of it as an opportunity to make its full effort in the development of her concerts.

“The layoff pushed me to draw on my entrepreneurial instincts,” said Caperonis.

Coaching and content creation have become its full -time job. She started to commit and publish up to twice a day on LinkedIn, and more brands contacted her partnerships.

In July 2024, she launched her business, Reinven Yourself Academy, and the following month, she received the LinkedIn Top Voice badge. She now invoices $ 5,000 for her official coaching program to her customers.

She is able to balance her time between her different companies by automating her accommodation business as much as possible, spending about 35 hours per week for content creation and career coaching and five to 10 hours on Airbnb.

Having a backup plan that cannot be removed is crucial

“This trip showed me that it is possible to transform challenges into opportunities with determination and good state of mind,” said Caperonis.

If she could go back in time, she says that she would have started to build her personal brand on LinkedIn and her business much earlier – and planned her exit from the business world earlier.

“I have come to understand that it is essential to create something for yourself that cannot be removed,” said Caperonis. “Since layoffs can occur unexpectedly, having a safeguard plan is crucial.”
