It looks like participants in Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival are in more traffic delays.
Certain channels of the 10 in the west should be closed Friday afternoon after a big rig was overturned and caught fire near Washington Street, just west of the Empire Polo Club in Indio, where festival-goers are flocking for the second weekend of the three-day music festival. According to Caltrans, traffic in the west direction is reduced to 1 lane from 1.4 mi to the west to 2.4 mi west of Indio in Varner Road in the county of Riverside.
Last Thursday, festival-goers headed for the weekend, one of Coachella (the day before the annual music festival appeared in Indio), and traffic disasters were reported on social networks. The frustrated festival -goers said they were waiting up to 10 and 12 hours to cross the line and enter the campsite. According to social media users, they did not have access to water or toilet when they were stuck online, some car campers were missing from gas, others said that their cars overheated or even free of side while people were trying to cut online or vanish around them.
George Cunningham, Vice-President Director of Public Security with Goldenvoice, addressed the Quinta municipal council on Tuesday and said that an influx of campers arriving early had caused traffic problems last weekend. According to Cunningham, 6,300 campers have already parked inside camping grounds at 4.30 p.m., and in recent years, the festival has not seen as many automobile camps as later in the evening. Cunningham described the plans to ensure that the Festival automobile campers were treated faster this time, including the addition of toll squares where campers’ vehicles could be sought before entry.
