Big Blue celebrates 100 years with Century Red uniforms

The New York Giants may have built 100 years of football tradition with eight championships, including four Super Bowl victories, under the Big Blue name.

They are ready to celebrate the franchise’s rich history by painting the city red with new uniforms – “Century Red.”

The uniform platform is the culmination of a two-year process in partnership with the NFL, and the uniform itself harks back to the franchise’s early days. The beige pants, paired with red and blue striped socks, are a throwback to the original pants worn during their inaugural season in 1925, when founder Tim Mara purchased the team for $500.

The meaning of “Century Red” jerseys

The red jerseys are accented with blue from 1933, when the Giants played in the NFL’s first-ever championship game. There is also an iconic winged helmet honoring the 1938 champions, as the Giants became a cornerstone of the founding of the NFL.

All 2024 team jerseys will feature the team’s “100 Seasons” crest. The Giants will wear the uniform for up to two games this season.

“I feel like it’s raw and vintage,” linebacker Bobby Okereke said in the team’s release. “It’s a throwback to the 1920s and 1930s, when they were getting grimy. It’s a tribute to all the guys who played before. They paved the way for us to play this great game.”

The “Century Red” jersey will feature the special “100 Seasons” patch, which has its own origin story.

The commemorative logo was created to highlight the franchise’s history with the background shield inspired by the shape of the Polo Grounds, the team’s first home in 1925 – and with the zeros drawn into the contours of the stadium. Giants.

At the base is a recreation of the team’s classic logo, representing every player who has worn a Giants uniform. The player is superimposed on a football, named “The Duke” in honor of Wellington Mara and features eight laces to symbolize the team’s eight NFL championships.
