President Joe Biden is interrupting his weekend at the beach to return to the White House as Israel and U.S. forces in the Middle East prepare for a possible imminent attack from Iran.
Biden was in Rehoboth Beach, Del., and was originally scheduled to return Sunday, CNN reported.
The president is expected to return to the White House on Saturday to “consult with his national security team on events in the Middle East,” his administration confirmed.
Biden’s quick return to Washington, D.C., could be a sign that tensions between Israel and Iran are reaching a boiling point.
Iran is reportedly ready to imminently launch a direct attack on Israel this weekend – a move Biden himself vehemently warned against during a press briefing on Friday.
Threats emanating from Iran – following Israel’s assassination in Damascus of an Iranian Revolutionary Guard general – have raised the prospect of a wider regional conflict.
On Friday, the United States brought two guided-missile destroyers capable of intercepting incoming drones and missiles closer to Israel in preparation for the attack, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The country is also ready to help Israel receive missiles from Iran, which apparently seeks revenge for the April 1 Israeli attack that killed seven Iranian military officers, CNN reported, citing sources.
