Biden blames poor performance on international travel, says he nearly ‘fell asleep on stage’

At a campaign fundraiser in McLean, Virginia, on Tuesday night, President Joe Biden attributed — for the first time — his poor performance in last week’s debate to the number of foreign trips he took in June, according to pool notes.

“I decided to go around the world several times,” he said, referring to his recent travels, including his visit to France for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

“I didn’t listen to my team,” he continued, adding that he almost “fell asleep on stage.”

Biden also apologized, saying he was sorry for the performance but stressing that it was “critical” to winning the election.
