Former Clinton adviser James Carville said Thursday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that President Joe Biden and the Democrats were using a “dumb” strategy to sell the Build Back Better program.
Carville said, “We are asking Congressional Democrats to do very popular things. It doesn’t take a lot of courage to negotiate the prices of prescription drugs. It doesn’t take a lot of courage to raise taxes for the rich. It doesn’t take a lot of courage to expand health care. Someone has to come into the room, okay. We want to do ten things, we can do five. Take the other five and run them in 2022. They have to understand that the reality is that they are just running around like people in a locker room banging their helmets against the lockers. It won’t do you any good. You won’t get any further than Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. So stop this idiot from protesting and harassing them. Tell President Biden to bring them into the room, bring the speaker in, get the majority leader, find something and what we don’t get, let’s go in 2022. C is a silly strategy that I see. These are all popular things.
Melber said: “Is this a failure of Democratic messaging?”
Carville said: “Of course it is. They haven’t gone out enough in the country, they haven’t sold it enough.
When Melber asked why the Democrats weren’t selling Biden’s plan more, Carville said, “They think it’s unworthy of them to go out and sell.”
