Slate Auto, a company supported partly by the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, unveils a low -cost electric truck which can also be transformed into SUV.
Its starting price: $ 20,000 after the Federal incentives EV.
“A radically simple electric van that can change in everything you need – even a SUV,” explains the Slate d’Ardoise website. “Made in the United States at a price that is really affordable (not really, for real).”
The two -door version can be changed into a 5 -seat SUV. The basic truck is small: about two-thirds the size of a Chevy Silverado EV and about Sept-Huit the size of a Ford Maverick. It has a 1,400 pound payload capacity compared to the 1,500 pounds of the Maverick.
Less than 15 feet long, Slate says that it is closer to a Toyota pick-up in 1985.
Its smaller and less showy stature is by design: Techcrunch refers to slate as an “anti-TESLA”, and although the slate truck and the cybertruck are customizable, the starting slate model is stripped of essential elements, especially without electric windows or infodion screen.
The specifications show a maximum range of 150 miles on a single load, with the option for a longer range battery which could offer up to 240 miles. Vehicles are designed in California and Michigan, designed in Michigan and assembled somewhere in Midwest, according to the Slate website. Techcrunch reported that the factory was in Indiana.
Earlier this month, Techcrunch announced the news that Bezos, with the owner controlling Los Angeles Dodgers, Mark Walter; And a third investor, Thomas Tull, had helped increase Slate $ 111 million for the project. A document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission listed Melinda Lewison, head of the Bezos family office, as director of the slate automobile.
Vehicles should not be delivered to customers before the end of 2026, but can be reserved for reimbursable costs of $ 50.
